DUBAI
The city of Dubai, in the Arabian Peninsula, is in the process of reinventing itself as the playground of the western world.

Sandi is joined by writers and enthusiasts of the Middle East, Sarah Monaghan, and Anthony Sattin to discuss Arabia 's past and future and the impact that this development is having on its residents, visitors and neighbours.

WILFRED THESIGER (1910 - 2003)
The British explorer Wilfred Thesiger spent more than sixty years journeying to some of the most remote and dangerous places on earth. He was one of the first Europeans to cross the Arabian desert known as the Empty Quarter.

His biographer and close friend Alexander Maitland explains to Sandi Toksvig what drove Thesiger to explore the harshest of environments.
