FOOD TOURISM
26 March 2005
Presented by Sandi Toksvig

sale of bread in market in Haiti

On this week's programme Sandi Toksvig is joined by three travellers who share a passion for food and travel.

Guests:

Gerard Baker, Chef

Gerard trained as a chef. He has spent three years in California as a chef at Chez Panisse, a famous organic restaurant in San Francisco, and spent six years in the Antarctic. He now goes abroad, employed as a cook for people who want good food while they're away. He also spends a lot of time in the South West of France and in Italy.

Natacha Du Pont de Bie, Food Tourist and Writer
Natasha discovered an old cookbook written by the King of Laos's chef and developed an interest in Laotian cookery. She travelled extensively for five months in Laos, introducing herself to cooks everywhere she went and sampling what they had to offer. She uses her enthusiasm for food as a way to get to know the culture and people. 'Ant Egg Soup' is published by Sceptre, ISBN: 0-340-82568-5.

Claudia Roden, Cookery writer
Claudia was born in Egypt and lived in Cairo until the war with Israel in 1956. They settled in North London and she has lived here ever since although she has travelled frequently for her cookery books. She has written a number of books including 'The Food of Italy' and 'and 'A Book of Middle Eastern Cookery'. She has travelled throughout the Middle East, through Turkey, the Mediterranean and Italy.
