CAVES
9 October 2004
Presented by Sandi Toksvig

Stump Cross Caverns

On this week's programme Sandi Toksvig comes from the caves at Stump Cross, in North Yorkshire.

Sandi will be donning her hard hat to explore the worlds often forgotten subterranean landscapes.

Professor Robert Layton, Anthropologist , University of Durham
Robert is fascinated by non-Western Art and indigenous rights. He has carried out extensive field work with Australian Aboriginal peoples and in rural France.  Robert lived in Australia from 1974 to 1981, working for the Aboriginal communities there.  His interest in rock art emerged when he first saw photographs of the beautiful life size Palaeolithic colourful drawings of wild animals in caves in the Dordogne.

Harry Long, Caver
Harry is a keen caver and lives in the North Yorkshire area. He has spent a large amount of time exploring the hidden passages at Stump Cross, looking for further undiscovered areas. He is very aware of the risks associated with caving and he works as part of the local cave rescue team. Harry has also visited caves elsewhere in Europe, Ireland and France and Spain.

Sid Perou, Caving Film-maker
Sid is renowned throughout the caving and broadcasting world as an extremely experienced caving cinematographer. In 1999 he was awarded the Giles Barker award for his continuing excellence. He has travelled extensively to film in caves across the globe with some of his most memorable experiences being in Borneo.
