Friday 22 December 2006 11:00-11:30 (Radio 4 FM)

Would you pick up a ringing payphone? That's what Alan Dein is hoping as he dials across the globe. Talking to strangers anywhere, anytime, listening as the phonebox becomes either a story box or a confession booth.

Dein calls up Christmas - he rings Florida, finds there's more than one Santa Claus in Georgia and, of course, calls at his shop in the North Pole, Alaska. While in the little town of Bethlehem, New Zealand, there are strange travellers with tales to tell.
