PETER BISKIND
Mark Lawson talks to the journalist Peter Biskind, whose gossip-filled exposé of Hollywood in the 1970s, Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, was one of the most talked-about books on the film industry. Now he’s turned his attention to the wave of independent film-makers that hit the scene in the 1990s. He tells Mark how a film festival in Utah and a young film company run by an abrasive pair of brothers turned the movie world upside down.
Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance & the Rise of Independent Film is out now in hardback, published by Bloomsbury.
CHILDREN IN GALLERIES
Following Mark's recent report for Front Row on how our museums and galleries cater for children, we hear what listeners think. And Mark is joined by the National Gallery's Head of Education, Kathy Adler, and art critic Richard Cork, to discuss whether making art galleries and museums child-friendly is an investment in our artistic future, or an annoying distraction for adult art lovers.
SEX, FOOTBALLERS AND VIDEOTAPE
Mark is joined by Patrick Barclay of the Sunday Telegraph to review a television drama inspired by the recent sex and drug scandals which have hit Premiership football.
Sex, Footballers and Videotape is on Channel 4 tonight at 10 pm.
ELMER BERNSTEIN
The death was announced today of the Academy Award-winning film composer Elmer Bernstein, famous for scores including The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven. Mark Lawson spoke to him when he visited the UK in 2001.
