Say It Plain

Saturday 22 April 2006 20:00-21:00 (Radio 4 FM)

Slavery was finally abolished in the 19th Century. But the struggle for Black liberation in America was to take a long and brutal further journey into the present - a journey marked by lynchings, burning churches and by the brave people who decided to speak out - to say it plain.

Dotun Adebayo listens to the speeches made by the 'foot soldiers' in the struggle for equality; the words of Black American activists who mixed the fire of the pulpit with the cool logic of justice and a passion derived from a tremendous sense of hope.
