James Naughtie looks at the career of Walter Legge, arguably the most influential classical recording producer of all time. Karajan, Callas, Schwarzkopf and Klemperer were all his discoveries and his legacy contains some of the most famous recordings ever made. Yet he was autocratic, secretive, combative and eventually unmanageable, walking away from the business at the height of his powers and disappearing into obscurity.
