Usha Gupta
Blossom Hill Cottage
17.6.62
(Souad Faress)
Solicitor Usha is an equity partner with the Felpersham firm of Jefferson Crabtree. Usha's parents were unhappy when she moved to the countryside from Wolverhampton in 1991. She's been welcomed by many villagers, but integrating into the rural community brought plenty of challenges, including a horrendous series of attacks by a gang of racist thugs. Although she gets on well with salsa dancing partner Ruth Archer, relations with Ruth's sister-in-law Shula Hebden Lloyd never recovered from Shula's affair with Usha's then boyfriend Richard Locke. Since he left, Auntie Satya Khanna and brother Shiv did their best to find a satisfactory replacement. Usha was briefly engaged to Shiv's friend Ashok but neither of the matchmakers were very impressed when subsequently Usha, a practising Hindu, took up with the local vicar Alan Franks.
