Roy was once part of the group of racist thugs who terrorised Usha Gupta, but that youthful foolishness is long behind him now. He pulled up his socks, read business studies at Felpersham University and eventually became assistant manager at Grey Gables. After Roy, Hayley and daughter Phoebe Aldridge (from ex-girlfriend Kate Madikane) had to leave their flat at Nightingale Farm, they struggled to find somewhere affordable. A "temporary" move back in with Roy's parents Mike and Betty in 2003 became a drawn-out occupation, which showed even less sign of ending after Betty's death at Christmas 2005.
