Although she seems to be part of a stable nuclear family in the loving care of Roy and Hayley Tucker, Phoebe's surname indicates a situation in the style of many 21st century familial tangles. Roy is Phoebe's father, but her mother is Kate Madikane (née Aldridge), whose early New Age leanings meant that the child was born in a tepee at the Glastonbury Festival and named in a ceremony on Lakey Hill. Young Roy bravely cared for Phoebe following Kate's departure to Africa to 'find herself', and it fell to Kate's now husband Lucas to persuade Kate that Phoebe had a home with Roy and Hayley and couldn't be collected like a lost umbrella. |
