Phil Archer
Glebe Cottage
Born 23.4.28

(Norman Painting)

Born on St George's day, Phil is the type seen by many as the backbone of rural England. The son of yeoman farming stock, he built up Brookfield in the 1960s and 70s and still lends a hand under the management of son David and daughter-in-law Ruth. He's a staunch churchgoer - in fact, he's the church organist - and his marriage to Jill has been one of the most stable relationships in the village. In his retirement, Phil is very active, looking after Brookfield's previously neglected garden as well as his own; and his piano playing is always in demand for village productions. Altogether an admirable man, then. If he has a fault, his indulgence for granddaughter Pip's musical activities means he occasionally overestimates the actual extent of her talents.
