After a lifetime of independence and service - initially to the Empire as a colonial wife in Kenya and elsewhere, and later to Ambridge through the church and parish council - Marjorie finally moved into a nursing home in 2003. Although physically frail, mentally she is as sharp as ever and organises her fellow residents much as she used to her pack of champion Afghan hounds.
