It's ironic for Brian and Jennifer Aldridge that now their daughter Kate has grown up and settled down a bit, she's 5000 miles away on another continent. When she was at home, Kate was a heap of trouble: expelled from school, taking up with travellers, having baby Phoebe at 19 and denying the father Roy Tucker his parental rights - until she needed to dump the child so she could 'find herself' in Africa. She met Lucas on her travels and had his baby Noluthando ('Nolly') on 19 January 2001. Lucas has been a calming influence on her ever since.
