One definition of an intellectual is someone who can hear the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger. It could also be someone who can meet the landlady of The Bull without thinking of Dolly Parton, either because of her generous figure or her remarkably singable name. To be fair, that would be an entirely appropriate association, because Jolene (real name Doreen) still plays occasional gigs as singer and pianist with her country music band The Midnight Walkers.
Much of The Bull's success in recent years has been down to Sid's wife, with line dancing sessions, music nights and innovations including a cyber-area with internet access. Jolene's daughter Fallon Rogers has inherited her mother's musical ability, although you'd get a pretty withering look if you asked her to play country and western.
