Being the Grundy who lost Grange Farm for future generations sat heavy with Joe, but the purchase of Grundys' Field, making this former tenant into a landowner (albeit in a very small way), brightened his 80th year. Joe's often to be seen trotting around the village - in his trap, pulled by Bartleby the pony, that is. Bartleby knows the lanes well, which is a blessing given Joe's appetite for his own notorious farmhouse cider (Joe claims to be a Methodist, but he's seen rather more in The Bull than at chapel). Joe looks after the gardens at Keeper's Cottage and neighbouring April Cottage, and maintains a running feud with Lynda Snell across the road. Well, every man needs a hobby...
