Through more than 40 years of marriage, Jill has never stopped mothering. She takes a keen interest in the lives of her adult children - Kenton, Shula (now Hebden Lloyd), David and Elizabeth (now Pargetter) - especially when they aren't behaving like adults. Many villagers, too, have been grateful for her caring and practical nature. Although she and Phil moved to their retirement cottage in 2001, Jill still tends the bees and hens in Brookfield's orchard and takes a full part in village life. Outwardly a traditional 'farmer's wife', Jill has a radical streak. She's opposed to private education and hunting, for example. Her strong sense of justice has led her to support several causes over the years, the most recent being an attempt to rid the local school of junk food.
