Felpersham
To the east of Ambridge village famous Felpersham is ranged.
The cathedral used to be the city's heart, but that's all changed.
There's shops and bars and restaurants and no-one thinks it's odd
That they have tills instead of altars, and the credit card is God.
The girls at Bannisters café bar have blond streaks in their hair.
Then they move on to Angels nightclub - best not ask what happens there.
Seventeen miles away there's much my Freda thinks is rum
But she'd rather go to Felpersham than scary Birmingham.
One of Bert Fry's odes. |
