Ed's lived a pretty troubled life so far and there's no sign of it easing any time soon. He's served community punishments for joyriding and burglary and in 2004 he tried to grow cannabis in a barn at Bridge Farm with his mate Jazzer. Ed sensed a chance of salvation when Emma Carter and Ed's beloved nephew George moved in with him, prior to Emma's divorce from his brother William. But in 2006 the strains of the difficult relationship were too much for Emma, who moved back with her parents. Ed went AWOL in a miasma of drink and drugs, to the despair of parents Eddie and Clarrie. When Ed was found, employer and patron Oliver Sterling battled to give him a reason to live.
