Husband to Ruth, devoted father to Pip, Josh and Ben and a stalwart of the Ambridge cricket team. Having taken on Brookfield Farm in 2001 (much to the disgruntlement of squabbly siblings Kenton and Elizabeth Pargetter) it seemed like a good idea to recruit specialist herdsman Sam Batton to maximise the revenue from their expanded dairy herd.
But when David's former fiancée Sophie Barlow reappeared, obviously interested in David, it inflamed Ruth's affinity with Sam into something stronger.
David hasn't always made the wisest choices; shooting a badger was never going to be a career move for a parish councillor, even with the farm paralysed by TB. But he rebuffed Sophie's advances and so felt particularly betrayed to discover that Ruth had indulged Sam's. Despite Ruth's last minute change of heart he has found the revelation of her infidelity difficult to cope with. Will their relationship recover?
