A relation of Lord Netherborne, Ambridge's posh totty has brought pleasure to innumerable men since her arrival in 1977 (Archers listeners, that is; what do you think we meant?) After 20 single years - including an affair with Brian Aldridge - she found Mr Right in the person of landowner Guy Pemberton, who unfortunately died after only six months of marriage. She later found love with another rich man: Oliver Sterling. And why not? Two Rights don't make a wrong. In 2004, with more love to offer than they could expend on each other, the couple became foster carers. Caroline owns the Dower House and a majority share in The Bull but put both on the market in January 2006 in the hope of buying Grey Gables, which she has managed since 1988. She married Oliver in June 2006.
