Felicity Jones

(Emma Grundy)

Description

Felicity's enthusiasm for drama began at an early age. When she was growing up in Birmingham she joined a local drama workshop and, while still at school, she got her first break at the tender age of 12 when she landed the role of Alice in The Treasure Seekers, an adaptation from E Nesbitt's first novel.

Her best-known role from her school days was probably as Ethel Hallow in The Worst Witch and its sequel Weird Sister College, which were adapted from the books written by Jill Murphy.

By 2000 she had joined the ranks of actors working on the world's longest running radio soap: BBC Radio 4's The Archers. In it she plays Emma Grundy. Emma's personal life makes this role quite a challenging one. Even before she had married Will Grundy she had slept with his brother, Ed. To make matters worse Emma got married not even knowing which of the Brothers Grundy is baby George's father. This situation, even Emma realises, cannot go on forever...

Felicity's other roles have included Fanny in an adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park and Grace in the BBC One costume drama, Servants.

During her 2005 summer recess from Oxford University, where she studies English literature and language, she performed at Wadham College, in an adaptation of Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors at the Tokyo Arts Centre. Evidently, the bard is already in her blood as she states her ambition is to play the tragic, eponymous heroine in Romeo & Juliet.

Archers highlight(s)

Definitely the Ed, Will, Emma love triangle - wonderful, juicy stuff!

Other career highlights

Playing Mia in 'That Face' at the Royal Court earlier this year.

Actor's view of their character

I stand by all Emma's decisions!!

Favourite:

Actor

Anthony Hopkins in Howard's End, particularly the moment when he hides his face because of the embarrassment of his emotion.

Book

At the moment 'The Rainbow' by D. H. Lawrence.

Film

Quite difficult to narrow it down to one, but either 'Husbands and Wives' (Woody Allen) or 'Le Mepris' (Godard)

Unfulfilled ambition ("I'd still like to...")
