1971

Woolley expands
Jack Woolley opened his country park at Grey Gables.

Lillian Archer married Ralph Bellamy, 3 September.
Lucy Perks born, 12 December.
Dan and Doris celebrated their golden wedding, 17 December.

1972

Crash!
Sid and Polly Perks sold the village shop to Jack Woolley and took over the Bull from Peggy Archer.
RAF plane crashed near Heydon Berrow. The pilot survived.
Dry rot was found in the bell tower at St Stephen's.

Mike and Betty Tucker married.
Jack Archer died, 12 January.
Martha Lily and Joby Woodford married, 25 December.

Goerge Barford

1973

Jack's busy year
George Barford appointed game keeper on Jack Woolley's estate.
Jack sold Ambridge Hall to Laura Archer and was later assaulted in a robbery at Grey Gables.
Neil Carter joined Brookfield Farm.
Village school closed.
Martha Woodford became subpostmistress.
Jack suffered his first heart attack on hearing that Valerie wanted a divorce.
The Ploughman's bar opened at the Bull, serving home-cooked food.

George Barford attempted suicide.
Outbreak of swine fever at Hollowtree. Phil's entire herd of pigs were slaughtered.
Pat Lewis proposed to Tony Archer.
Kenton Archer started as a Merchant Navy cadet.

Aldridge arrives
Ralph Bellamy retired due to ill health.
Brian Aldridge bought 1500 acres of the Estate and a farmhouse.
Joe Gundry held a pop festival at Grange Farm.

Paul Johnson went bankrupt and left the village.

Eddie Grundy

Fresh starts
Tony Archer became tenant of Bridge Farm.
Mike Tucker joined Haydn Evans in partnership at Willow Farm.
Christine Johnson moved into the Stables.
Jack Woolley sold land for controversial Glebelands housing estate.
Jill Archer and Jennifer Aldridge opened the unsuccessful Two Jays craft studio.
Eddie Grundy returned to Grange Farm.
George Barford's divorce finalised.
