A near affair

2007

A tragic end
Siobhan Hathaway contracted terminal cancer. Despite her initial violent objections, Jennifer Aldridge eventually agreed to bring up Ruari, Siobhan's lovechild with Brian Alidridge. As the bereaved boy tried to adjust to his new home, Devastated Alice Aldridge left for her gap year estranged from her father.
When friendship turned into a relationship for Fallon Rogers and Ed Grundy, jealous Emma Grundy went off the rails.
Ambridge cricket team had a spirited but unsucessful attempt to win the national Village Cup.
Rev Alan Franks sparked division in the parish by suggesting they remove the pews from the church.
Lilian Bellamy sensed danger when Matt Crawford recruited bright and beautiful lawyer Annabelle Schrivener to the Borchester Land board.
When Ruth Archer decided she wanted a breast reconstruction, husband David feared it was to attract other men, until a loving reconciliation.
Despite Clarrie Grundy's concerns, mother-of-two Nic Hanson moved in with Will Grundy after financial problems.
Alistair Lloyd's acerbic, atheist father Jim made Shula's Christmas a nightmare, while recuperating from a broken leg.

Brothers at war
Alice Aldridge and Christopher Carter started dating, to the Carters’ delight and the Aldridges’ dismay.
David and Ruth Archer introduced “rational grazing” in a multi-paddock system at Brookfield.
Eddie Grundy discovered the body of a Civil War soldier while digging out a picnic site in the Millennium Wood.
Jack Woolley's dementia became increasingly troublesome for wife and carer Peggy. After she suffered a stroke, she was furious when the family moved him temporarily him into a care home.
In Hungary, Debbie Aldridge started going out with fellow ex-pat farmer Marshall Latham.
After a threat by Borchester Land to redevelop their packhouse as a dwelling, Pat and Tony Archer bought the freehold of Bridge Farm.
Disagreeing over a low quality/high volume supermarket deal, Tom Archer tried to break away from his partner Brian Aldridge.
Ambridge became a Transition Community.
Will Grundy was disgusted when his brother Ed was reunited with Will's ex-wife Emma. After Will attacked Ed in a frenzied assault, Brian Aldridge found him a temporary gamekeeper job in Gloucestershire, to prevent him leaving Ambridge for good.
Persuaded by Lilian Bellamy, reluctant Matt Crawford traced his birth mother, but the encounter was not a happy one.
After forming a strong friendship with Joe Grundy, former resident Mildred Sommerskill admitted to terminal cancer, before returning to Canada.
Willow Farm was extended, creating Willow Cottage as a separate home for Mike Tucker.
To Shula Hebden Lloyd's concern, husband Alistair started to mentor a fellow compulsive gambler, the charming but erratic Ryan.
