Find out what's going on behind the scenes in Ambridge

The Sammy Awards 2009
16 April 2009

June Spencer and Arnold Peters (Peggy and Jack Woolley) Named after Peggy's favourite cat, the Sammy Awards are organised by Archers Addict Vicky Griffiths and voted for by listeners. The Sammys celebrate the very best of The Archers, but also rejoice in the things they love to hate; in fact the category to get the most nominations was "most irritating character"!

Bouquets and Brickbats
Here's a selection of comments from Sammy voters reflecting on storylines in 2008 - as you can see, not everyone agrees.

Peggy and Jack

  • Has to be one of the best-written long-term stories The Archers has accomplished.
  • Moving, realistic and beautifully acted.
  • Allowing the story to progress in real time contributed to its strength.

  • Matt searching for his mother
  • The storyline showed a different side to him.
  • A damp squib
  • Very sensitively handled with bleak realism.

  • Taylor's Trial
  • The trial had me on the edge of my seat ... riveting stuff
  • Kathy's dilemma was well explored
  • I wanted to cheer when Pat gave her evidence.

  • The panto
  • So predictable
  • We loved it!

  • Laughter Lines
  • Lynda: "We're not here to mess about in silly costumes, we're here to put on a pantomime!"
  • Joe: (about Sabrina's cake) "Death by chocolate - made with real death."
  • Matt: "Jennifer's had to stay at home and look after Brian's little indiscretion."

  • Archers Addicts
