29 October 2009

woman wearing headphones For two years, listeners have been able to receive daily episodes of The Archers direct to their computer, by "podcast". From this Sunday (1 November), The Archers Omnibus will also be available by this method.

You can download an individual episode or omnibus, or "subscribe" (free of charge), so that the programmes are delivered automatically to your computer. You can listen to them direct from the computer, or load them on to an MP3 player or other listening device, such as a mobile phone.

You may be familiar with the BBC iPlayer, which is an alternative way of listening via your computer. With iPlayer, episodes and omnibuses are only available for seven days after transmission. But with a podcast, once the programme is on your computer it is there forever, for you to listen to whenever, and however many times, you want.
