Another woman singer from Israel - but in the Sephardic or judeo-spanish tradition- Yasmin Levy - she did a live concert on radio 3's world music day this yr - been performing in the UK recently and getting rave reviews - her father was one of Israel's most important Sephardic singers - died when she was only about two but she's following in his footsteps keeping this little known repertoire alive - very intense voice and very beautiful woman - in her 20s - also modernising it by re-connecting with Spanish flamenco musicians - her first album came out two yrs ago in Israel and we played it then on WR - Moshe you played it and introduced me to her music - well that album is just out in the UK called Romance and Yasmin. Well just as her first album comes out here, the second one is out in Israel so as ever we're ahead of the game - this one is called La Juderia - the Jewish quarter in Sevilla - where she recorded the album. Released this week in Israel
