
Radio 3 returns to WOMAD for a weekend of live broadcasts and recorded highlights introduced by Andrew McGregor, Fiona Talkington, Lucy Duran, Serena Dankwa and Verity Sharp – more than seven hours of WOMAD broadcasts.

Radio 3’s own stage moves to Charlton Park’s shady arboretum, hosted by Serena Dankwa and Fiona Talkington. There will be intimate, mostly acoustic performances from established performers as well as newcomers. Artists include Palestinian oud virtuosos the Trio Joubran; Frigg, a Finnish-Norwegian string band making their UK debut; and the Silk String Quartet, a UK-based group of Chinese classical musicians.
There will be live performances from the two main stages, the Open Air and the Siam Tent, plus recorded highlights, interviews and the ‘truck sessions’ from the BBC’s mobile radio studio.

Andrew McGregor and Verity Sharp start off the weekend on Friday at 11.30 with a show running until 1 a.m. Artists include the Ensemble Shanbehzadeh from Iran, and Bassekou Kouyate from Mali live on the Radio 3 stage.

Lucy Duran presents a special Womad Festival 2007 programme the following day from 1 until 2 pm, with live performances from the Warsaw Village Band, and Belgian band Jaune Toujours.

Andrew McGregor and Verity Sharp return with late-night music on Saturday from 10.00 pm until midnight, with live sets from Bhangra star Malkit Singh and N’Faly Kouyate from Guinea. There are highlights from Massoukos from Mozambique and American gospel star Candi Staton.

Andrew McGregor winds up Radio 3's on-site coverage of the WOMAD festival, with more highlights in the Monday night slot from 11.15 until 1 am, with recordings from Sunday’s headliners Baaba Maal and Tinariwen.
There are further highlights over the following days on Late Junction with Fiona Talkington, including sets by Sheila Chandra, the Taj Mahal Trio and the Silk String Quartet.
