In the first part he visits the capital Damascus to explore the character of the country and its people through its music. In the second, he visits an Islamic Sufi gathering in Aleppo, in northern Syria. With Israel on one border and Iraq on another, religion in Syria is often politically charged; at the gathering of Sheikh Habboush, music is seen as a potent force for Islam. |
