![]() Now That's What I Call Mali Back in 1989 as Malian music was beginning to gain international attention, Andy Kershaw and producer Simon Broughton made a pioneering trip to experience Mali's musical riches in the raw. Beginning at Bamako's Buffet Hotel de la Gare, Andy hears the Rail Band and kora player Ballake Sissoko, visits Amy Koita, nearly gets drowned by le Grand Griot in the Niger and travels with Ali Farka Toure to Timbuktu. Musically sumptuous, vivid, spontaneous and recorded en route as it happened, this is one of Andy's most memorable trips - and finally immortalised in a specially performed song by Kandia Kouyate.
