Late Junction - The Hours
Join Liverpool Cathedral and BBC Radio 3 for an evening of music and debate, as part of Liverpool Cathedral's Centenary Celebrations. 

7.30 pm Monteverdi 'Vespers'

A complete performance performed by the Gabrieli Consort. This will be broadcast live as part of Radio 3`s nightly concert, Performance on 3.

9.30 pm Night Waves

BBC Radio 3`s cultural debate programme. With interest in eastern thought on the rise whilst attendance of western churches declines, Paul Allen and guests discuss what western religion can learn from the east.

10.15 pm-1am Late Junction

Verity Sharp and Fiona Talkington continue Radio 3’s celebration of faith with a global selection of devotional music.

Live in Liverpool Cathedral, they are joined by sufi group The Nizami Brothers from Old Delhi, the devotional singer Alemu Aga from Ethiopia who also plays the beguena a traditional and sacred harp, and, from Senegal in West Africa, the mystic Laye Sow who combines songs of the Muslim brotherhoods with blues guitar. Plus, psalms, lamentations and religious ballads from Welsh group Bragod, Southern Indian devotional songs from UK-based vocalist Manorama Prasad, and organ versets played by Ian Tracey on the cathedral’s famous and enormous Father Willis organ.

Come and make a night of it at Liverpool Cathedral. The Cathedral will be open from 7pm until 1am and ticket holders are welcome to stay throughout the evening. All the BBC Radio 3 broadcasts will be relayed live and continuously around the main public area in the building.

The Cathedral Refectory will be open until 7pm , after which you are invited to eat "al fresco on the Terrace" between 9 - 10.30pm . A Barbeque, light desert and drink is available for £12 per person (vegetarian options available) - bookings for this can be made through Mrs. Ann Hughes on 0151 702 7251 or e-mail: : Ann.hughes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk. The terrace will be lit up and patio heaters will ward off any summer chill. The licensed Western Rooms will be serving light refreshments - strawberries and cream, wraps, sandwiches, tea, coffee and soft drink throughout the evening from 7.00 - 11.00pm.
