Joseph Adamson is correct that the one song appearance on Jools Holland Was not sufficient to showcase them.I saw their two live performances at The east coast blues and roots Festival in byron bay australia at easter 2006,and can assure you that they were absolutely fantastic. The percussionist, whose name i do not know, was just stunning, and along with Roy Rogers the American master slide guitar player, were my two top musicans out of the 85 acts at the festival.

I was searching for the pieces by the Kenyan artist who signs two haunting songs on the "Constant Gardner" soundtrack (someone help me with his name....Ogada Nguba....I know I'm butchering the spelling) and was instead turned onto this duo. I've been wearing the disc out!

After I heard their songs on Nonesuch (which is by the way an excellent record label), I ordered my CD through the internet. I just love the way these couple sing- so uplifting, soulful...They have stirred my heart with their melody and my feet with their beats...
I would love to see them in concert. Perhaps, they will come to Canada one day. Meanwhile, I hope people around the world listen more to this kind of music...

I heard A&M on CBC radio this afternoon. Fantastic. Does anyone know if their WOMAD concert was recorded and can be purchased or downloaded?

You can listen to the concert here:

It's excellent to see African artists that have managed to break the western market. They are one of the numerous examples of brilliant music in the continent that is under promoted. Their music speaks for itself and their talent is boundless.

Was looking forward to this gig the most, and it was the highlight of WOMAD - everyone happy, smiley, dancing. Special mention to the djembe player - he rocks!

Too bad I couldn't go to Lowlands Festival this year, I was watching the concerts on MTV. Suddenly the performance of Amadou & Mariam passed by. I've never heard of this couple, but when I saw them on tv I was hooked! The music is mysterious and happy at the same time, it has something magical. The music really moved me, even through the lousy speakers of my small tv. I saw the clip of Senegal Fast Food after the Lowlands performance, then I wanted more of A & M, but MTV started with other artists. Nothing sounded as good as A & M, I wasn't interested in the other artists anymore. So I turned off the tv and the next day I bought their newest album imediatley. I can't get enough of their music and I haven't even seen them live yet! (only on tv).

There is so fuss about AMADOU & MIRIAM I saw them perform on Jools Holland show Iwas disappointed by their music it is the kind of music you listen once and that is the of the story.

The passion, precision and lyricism of this couple's music not only make Amadou and Mariam special; it stands them apart as some of the greatest purveyors of music today. Amadou's incredible guitar work - impossible even with those who boast the gift of sight - and Mariam's sweetly-intoned voice - are far better experienced in person than through a recording. It just doesn't do the band justice. Having seen them play Leicester Square in June, I was blown away by their cheeriness, the tightness of their band, and their constant (and rightfully so) use of cowbell. If there is one group you see this year, make sure it's Amadou and Mariam. And if anyone has a recording of their show in June, please let me know!

I was stunned by these two! He is the African Neil Young.

The best performance at WOMAD this year in my opinion. I was totally blown away. The whole crowd were on their feet for the duration.Stunning! I must go out and get their album.

I was really looking forward to seeing them and I was not disappointed. The sound was more rocky and bluesy than the Manu Chao-produced new album suggests, and the performance was thoroughly satisfying. Hope they come to Bristol when they tour (think there's a tour in September?)

Only being buried completely under 4 metric tonnes of quick setting concrete would stop me moving my body to the music of "Amadou & Mariam." Enuff said methinks

I've been banging on about these two to anybody who cared to listen for a few years now. Just back after seeing them at Womad and they were were amazing. Quite a wonderful experience to witness a blind Malian couple absolutely (excuse the cliche) rock the joint as well as any band you'll see. Everyone was dancing - can't wait to see them again when they tour later this year. Don't miss the chance to see them.

For me , these guys were the best act on this year. I was down the front and everyone was going mad, dancing and jumping up and down.
I defy you to keep your feet still. Truly joyous stuff. Dont miss them!

Only one say : don't miss them! I saw them twice this year. The second time was during our big festival here in BXL 'Couleur Café'. It was one of the very best moment. It was hot. I don't remember having seen somebody NOT dancing or moving in the tent! If I had the opportinity I sould go to the Womad to see them a third time. So don't miss them! Enjoy!
