Zaman Zaki
ZAMAN ZAKI (PAKISTAN)

Like every other religion, Islam has its fair share of sects, schisms, cants and controversies. Some Muslim leaders say that all music, apart from solo male chanting of the Koran, is haram , 'a sin'. Others, especially those who adhere to the Sufi path, uphold music as one of the means of attaining complete unity and oneness with God, beyond words, rules, ideology or opinions. The Qawaali, or praise-singers of Pakistan, adhere to this belief.

Zaman Zaki come straight from Karachi and are led by the father and son team of Muhammad Zaki Taji and Mohammad Zamman Taji. Together with the other twelve members of the troupe, Taji senior and junior deliver a typically ecstatic mix of soaring vocals, mesmeric melodies and transporting handclaps. It's more than enough to take you there...wherever you want 'there' to be.
