I met Reem in 1991 while in London. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army Notting Hill Goodwill Center. At first, I thought she was a Salvationist. When I discovered that she was in fact, a Moslem, volunteering her time to support the Salvation Army in ministering to the elderly and the homeless, I was amazed! Why was she there?
"It's simple," she responded, relating the story of her first visit to the Center. "When I got on my feet again, I just had to return to this place where I had been treated so well, and do something to help these poor people for whom hunger and homelessness are common plights. - Also, I owe it to the Major," she said.
Reem had a beautiful voice and frequently entertained the elderly members of the "Silver Threads" at the Goodwill Center. She sang Cole Porter tunes and Palestinian folk songs, but she also did a sensational rendition of "Amazing Grace." A gifted singer, she was a gifted conversationalist, as well, and what she had to say was the stuff of which novels are made.
During the course of one extended conversation, the extraordinary story of her life unfolded. - And what an amazing life it has been and is.

I had the pleasure of attending a number of Reem's gigs. People like Reem and her passion for Palestine and its people is what keep the nation alive.
A peatiful lady who is not only a brilliant performer and researcher of Palestinian Folklore but also a great person to know.
THANK YOU REEM.

Like saida i was a the Reem workshop a the exeter Palestine day event on Nov 19th. I had seen reem in conert in exeter in Sept and had been very impressed by both her musical skill but also by the emotion invested in her performance.
The workshop was attended by around 75 people both Arabic speakers and non-Arabic speakers. Reem has the abiltity to captivate an audience but also to engage with them very quickly to produce the most amazing sounds in a short space of time. This experience was magical to hear the sound of 75 people fill the room.
She also seamlessly weaves in Palestinian history with musicology, amusing anecdotes with breathing techniques.
If you get the chance don't miss her. She is a phenomenal talent.

We stumbled on Reem's website by accident and we couldn't believe such an amazing talent.
Palestinian Jazz! Reem you are delivering an honest message of peace and of a just cause. We are not all terrorists after all. As proud palestinians in diaspora, we are appreciative of your unique art. Your voice has to reach out in the wilderness until someday all the world will listen to it . Never stop giving.

I had the privilege to work with Reem and my class of year 5 children over the last 12 months. She was truly inspirational to both the children and myself. Her voice is stunning and her entusiasm is contagious. The children and I both loved her and the experience.

Reem not only has a beautiful voice and powerful performance, but I even consider her work to have the potential of more impact for the Palestinian cause than many excellent political analyses. I hope she will continue her work unabatedly. Thank you Reem, for keeping our Palestinian folklore alive and adding your own unique creative input to it. This is priceless.

I worked with Reem last winter on a schools multi-cultural education project. I was moved by her voice and professionalism. She is a true star and beacon for the Palestinian cause. Appearing on such a small stage at Womad does not do justice to this brilliant performer. Please give her the credit she so much deserves by putting her on the Siam stage, or at least the Village stage, next year.

Reem is a great singer with great back-up artists. I hopre to be at Womad next year

I've had the pleasure of listening to Reem on the CD "Exile", she is truly an artist who touched my soul with her rendition of (her version) of classical folkloric Arab/Palestinian and other songs.
Reem has the rare ability to transcend boundaries and man-imposed limitations, and take us to a better place, which is really what any true artist can hope to accomplish.
As a Palestinian woman, I am proud to have an artist of Reem's calibre represent us in the best possible way. She is an inspiration to Arab women and to women, artists and disecrning people who appreciate beauty all over the world.
I am certain that the only path for Reem is ahead, she is bound to be noticed and appreciated on a large scale. For all our sakes, I hope that will happen soon. May the Gods smile upon you Reem. The best to you.

She is a Godess!

I was told about Reem's performance recently and managed to hear it on the BBC web site. I particularly enjoyed her passion and rawness, hope you can play/show more of her songs on radio and TV.
Randa, Oxford
It is great to hear Reem's performance, though it took me a while to find it on the website. Reem's performances are always electrifying, a powerful yet tender voice with a unique range and totally engaged performance. Always something new to surprise and engage the audience, whatever its nature, and it works every time. I was very sorry to miss her at WOMAD. A World class artist that deserves an exposure to match her impact, voice, and work.
Susie, Glastonbury
As I was unable to make it to WOMAD, it is wonderful to have the opportunity here to listen to the enthralling gig of Reem Kelani and her musicians. Reem's voice superbly encompasses the whole range of emotions evoked by the Palestinian experience, from grief, passion and drama to tenderness and joy. The musicians are outstanding, in their ensemble playing and in their improvisations and solos. An important ingredient in the enjoyableness of the gig is the audience participation (what Reem says Tessa refers to as her 'workshopy-gig' or 'giggy workshop'). Reem's introductory remarks to the songs are illuminating and reflect the enormous amount of work she has done researching and collecting songs (a sort of Palestinian Cecil Sharp) as well as writing her own.
I did hear Andy Kershaw's interview with Reem and the brief excerpts of the music on that occasion and on Late Junction, and I hope we will hear lots more of her on radio in the future.
Max, Glasgow
Fantastic! Reem is amazing!
Stella Crook, Worcestershire
A very powerful performance. Thank you Reem Kelani and other musicians.
Mrs.Samia Cook, Jordan.
I managed to hear Reem Kelani's song "Dalouna on the return" on BBC Radio 4, while visiting London last December. It touched my heart to hear Reem sing with such compassion and sincerety, especially that the song is from my homeland Palestine. I wish Kelani the very best with her career. Peace,
Samia.

I was fortunate to hear Reem perform and attend one of her workshops. She has a wonderful presence and a powerful voice, sung from the heart which cannot fail to bring tears. The universal music of humanity.
