Sarah Connolly
Born in County Durham, Sarah Connolly studied piano and singing at the Royal College of Music.
Her concert engagements include appearances at the Salzburg Festival, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Philharmonie, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Ferrara Musica and Sydney Opera House, with such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Edo de Waart, Daniel Harding and Ivor Bolton. She is a regular guest artist at the BBC Promenade Series at Royal Albert Hall and was invited to take part in the opening festival of Carnegie's new Zankel Hall in New York.
In opera, she has sung the title roles of 'Ariodante' and 'Xerxes' for the New York City Opera, Ino/Juno ('Semele') at San Francisco Opera, Sesto ('Giulio Cesare') at Paris Opera, Juno at the Theatre des Champs Elysees, the title role of 'The Rape of Lucretia' at the Munich Festival and Ariodante, Xerxes, Dido ('The Trojans'), Romeo ('I Capuleti ed I
Montecchi'), Sesto ('La clemenza di Tito') at English National Opera and Annio ('La clemenza di Tito') at the Metropolitan Opera.
Her recordings include Rameau's 'Les Fêtes d'Hebe' with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie (winner of Gramophone Early Opera Award and nominated for a Grammy Award), Bach Cantatas with Collegium Vocale and
Philippe Herreweghe, Vivaldi's 'Juditha Triumphans' with the King's Consort, Vaughan Williams' 'Sir John in Love' with Richard Hickox, a recital disc of Schönberg songs and a solo disc of Handel arias with The Sixteen.
