Robert Beckford investigates the history of the Maroon rebel slaves in Jamaica who fought and won their freedom from the British in the 18th century. He visits the Maroon communities that still exist today and looks at how their spirit of resistance has been woven into the fabric of Jamaican society. He also examines their controversial history of handing over runaway slaves to the British.
