The Verb at The London Jazz Festival

Come and join us for a special jazz themed recording of The Verb at this year's London Jazz Festival.

The show will take place on Thursday 17 November at 6pm at the Purcell Room at London's South Bank.

Tickets are free - just call 08700 100300 or email theverb@bbc.co.uk

Joining Ian and his audience at the Purcell Room will be one of the UK's most inventive and dynamic performers on the piano, Gareth Williams, who will perform alongside the critically acclaimed and intensely creative jazz vocalist Norma Winstone. For The Verb, the two masters of improvisation will be joined in a duet, performing music set to the best of twentieth century poetry. There’ll also be spellbinding performance from The Verb’s award-winning eartoonist Peter Blegvad and a specially commissioned piece from spoken word artist, Salena `Saliva’ Godden. Critic John Walters will discuss the art of writing about jazz with a special piece about Miles Davies's In A Silent Way, and listeners will also be able to take part in a jazz writing competition. Plus, a mesmerising collaborative piece from crime writer John Harvey and the rising star of the jazz world, pianist and composer Gwilym Simcock.
