Werther's Woes...and First Maturity

Donald Macleod explores Brahms's renewed creativity after his six-year hiatus following the suicide attempt of his mentor Robert Schumann. The attention of Brahms's much-beloved Hamburg Ladies' Choir played a part in his rejuvenation and the programme includes a rare work written for them, which is accompanied by harp and horns.
