BBC Radio 3's series dedicated to the music of Paris continues as Lucie Skeaping recreates a possible day in the life of King Louis XIV.
After waking in his sumptuous bedchamber, the king follows a busy schedule before entertaining guests at supper and retiring late in the evening. At every part of the day, musicians are on hand to entertain or soothe him, or to trumpet his arrival.
Olivier Baumont, a harpsichordist and expert on French Baroque music, guides Lucie through the Palace of Versailles to illustrate some of the music the king may have heard.

The Trial and Death of Socrates

A play focusing on the mystery surrounding Socrates's trial and subsequent execution, the reasons for which have long puzzled historians.
Socrates has been found guilty of blasphemy and corrupting the youth of the city. On the eve of his execution his chief accuser Meletus is murdered. Josias, newly returned to Athens, is given the task of investigating the murder.
