Versailles and Paris Month: Musicians of Versailles
Catherine Bott looks at some of the many composers who were employed by the French royal family from the time of Louis XIII up to the Revolution at the end of the 18th century.
Musicians such as Marin Marais, the Couperin brothers, Andre Campra, Claude Balbastre, Francois Philidor, Louis-Claude Daquin and Andre Destouches all lived and/or worked at the palace of Versailles at some point during their career and wrote some of their best-known pieces for royal occasions.

1/2. On the shores of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan borders Iran, Armenia, Russia and Georgia and its musical traditions have influenced the area for centuries.
Although, with its plentiful oil and gas, the country is growing quickly, the old songs of the Ashig troubadours and the art music of the virtuosic Mugham performers are still going strong.

Verdi's La Traviata
From the Royal Opera House
Based on a play by Alexandre Dumas, La traviata tells the tragic story of Violetta, the consumptive courtesan whose bid for true love finds her pitilessly rejected by the society that once rejoiced in her debauched parties.
This Royal Opera House production is led by a cast including Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, tenor Jonas Kaufman and baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
Presented by Sean Rafferty from the Royal Opera House in conversation with writer and opera critic Alexandra Wilson.
