Making his Proms debut as principal conductor of the BBC NOW, Thierry Fischer conducts an all-French programme. Now 91, and still composing, Henri Dutilleux's moving cantata commemorates the tragic losses of World War II, while Ravel's bittersweet Piano Concerto for the Left Hand was written for the war-injured Paul Wittgenstein.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the death of John Coltrane, Alyn Shipton is joined by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch to assess the Coltrane legacy, and select the recordings by the great saxophonist that should be included in any jazz collection.
As well as Blue Train, Giant Steps and A Love Supreme, Alyn and Soweto also explore some of Coltrane's less well-known recordings.

Jez Nelson pays tribute to the groundbreaking work of John Coltrane, as the jazz world commemorates 40 years since the passing of one of the most celebrated tenor saxophonists.
Including an exclusive session recorded in New York, in which sax players Dave Liebman and Joe Lovano join forces to play through a selection of their favorite Coltrane compositions backed up by Liebman's regular rhythm-section of drummer Billy Hart, pianist Phil Markowitz and Ron McClure on bass.
Jazz on 3 also investigates the impact Coltrane's death had on the jazz scene of the late 1960s, and how his influence remains potent today.
