George Lewis
New Orleans clarinettist George Lewis was the spearhead of the traditional jazz revival from 1942 until his death in 1969. Alyn Shipton is joined by Lewis' friend and protege Tom Sancton to select the highlights from his vast catalogue of recordings.
Music includes Bunk Johnson's brass and dance bands, Lewis' trio, quartet and Ragtime Band, and work with such other jazz legends as Lizzie Miles and De De Pierce.

Jon Rose in Session
Jez Nelson presents a session recorded exclusively for the programme by British-Australian violin maverick Jon Rose with virtuosic cellist Frances-Marie Uitti.
Rose's recent work includes performances with his Futch trio and an extended project playing fences around the world with his violin bow. Uitti is famed for her experimental approach to composition and improvisation, and in particular for her extended technique at the instrument, which she often plays with two bows at once.
