Stravinsky, Debussy and Prokofiev

Petroc Trelawny introduces another concert in the LSO's series, spotlighting the music of three masters from the first half of the 20th Century.

The programme opens with Stravinsky's 'classical' Symphony and ends with a suite from Prokofiev's most famous ballet-score. In between is Debussy's Whistler-inspired sound-pictures of clouds, festivals and the alluring voices of Sirens.

Over the past three months, Alyn Shipton has invited listeners to contribute their own suggestions for the Jazz Library, by proposing additional tracks by the artists featured in the series so far.

As well as including music by Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, Weather Report, Jan Garbarek and other featured artists, Alyn is also joined by several listeners, who introduce their recommended records alongside his original proposals.

Bennie Maupin Ensemble

Jez Nelson introduces one of the highlights of this year's Cheltenham Jazz Festival, a set from one of the most important and influential reedmen of the early 1970s jazz circuit.

Bennie Maupin played bass clarinet and other woodwind on some of the best-selling jazz records of all time, including Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, and is joined in this concert by his latest chordless recording group featuring Michael Stephans on drums and percussion, Darek Oles on bass and Munyungo Jackson on percussion.
