BBC Symphony Orchestra

Petroc Trelawny presents young British conductor Edward Gardner, now music director of English National Opera, conducting an all-English programme spanning 70 years of music, from Walton's magnificent First Symphony to Julian Anderson's acclaimed single-movement Symphony.

The programmes starts with Colin Matthews' orchestral arrangement of Britten's A Charm of Lullabies and Britten's late dramatic cantata Phaedra. They offer contrasting opportunities for leading mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly.
