Louis Armstrong
Alyn Shipton offers guidance to building a jazz library.
This programme features the great Louis Armstrong. Satchmo's early work is assessed by his friend and fellow trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton, while his legacy is explored by Abram Wilson, one of the finest contemporary New Orleans trumpeters. Ranging from the early Hot Five days of the 1920s to his final triumphs with the All Stars, Alyn suggests the best recordings by Louis to form the cornerstone of any jazz collection.

Finn Peters
Jez Nelson interviews Finn Peters and presents a performance by the acclaimed young British reeds player, recorded last month at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho. Having forged a career encompassing contemporary classical music, broken-beat, house music, electronica and jazz, Peters recently released Su-Ling, his first jazz album. This set features music from his band of the same name, with guitarist David Okumu, drummer Tom Skinner, bassist Tom Herbert and keyboard player Nick Ramm. For this concert they are joined by special guest Matthew Yee-King on electronics.
