EBU Day of Christmas Music
Andrew McGregor presents a day of live Christmas concerts from radio stations in Europe and Canada.
The first performance comes from Moscow with music by Tchaikovsky and Glinka. Music from the Byzantine tradition comes frm Bucharest, after which Polish Radio offers a Mass for Christmas by Jozef Zeidler (1744-1806).
From Laval in Southern Quebec, Les Choeurs du Nouveau Monde perform choral music. This is followed by a concert from Chrudim in the Czech Republic featuring a Christmas Mass by Jaroslav Krcek, who also conducts the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra and the ensemble Musica Bohemia.
St Stephen's Church in Karlsruhe is the venue for an organ recital by Carsten Wiebusch. Finally, Bob Chilcott conducts the BBC Singers in a concert from St Giles Church, Cripplegate.
Food writer Elisabeth Luard talks about the ingredients and traditions of the seasonal tables of each of the regions visited.

Shakespeare's play, set during the Roman invasion of Britain, centres around the banishment of the man who has incurred the wrath of the king by secretly marrying his daughter. Confusion follows in an intricate plot in which nobody is quite who they seem to be.

By bringing together divided Christians and pioneering a new style of church music, Brother Roger led a quiet revolution in postwar Europe. His murder in 2005 was mourned by millions.
