Alexander Armstrong

Michael Berkeley meets the actor and comedian Alexander Armstrong, one of the guest presenters of Have I Got News for You, and the star of TV shows such as Beast (in which he played the animal-hating vet), and TLC.

He nearly became a professional singer rather than an actor, and his choices include Stanford's Nunc dimittis sung by the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge (in which he sings the bass solo); an aria from Bach's St Matthew Passion, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony and Strauss' Till Eulenspiegel.

The Early Music Show

Music of the Mediterranean

Joined in the studio by Professor Martin Cunningham of University College Dublin, Catherine Bott presents a concert recorded in The Coach House at Dublin Castle, given by the French ensemble Kadin Sarkilari back in February. The music is a fascinating mix of medieval songs and instrumental pieces from the Mediterranean, including Catalan songs, Troubadour music and Cantigas de Santa Maria.

The third instalment of the Proms Ring Cycle. Christoph Eschenbach conducts a concert performance of the recent Châtelet production of Wagner's Siegfried.

It took Wagner 16 years to complete, but the result is one of his most brilliant and powerful scores in which the young Siegfried discovers his true identity, wins back the all-powerful Ring and falls in love with the Valkyrie Brünnhilde.
