Hurrah for Hungary

As an overture to Performance on 3, in which the BBC SO performs Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, Bob Chilcott guides the BBC Singers through Hungarian choral traditions and repertoire.

Featuring seldom-heard music by Kodaly, Seiber, Ligeti and others, together with the world premiere of Cinq Choeurs by Franz Liszt - a set of partsongs composed in 1845 and lost until recently.

Hilary Hahn is the violin soloist who joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Hungarian composer/conductor Peter Eötvös for a concert at the Barbican. Including Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, now established as one of the great 20th Century showcases, which was given its UK premiere 60 years ago this month by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Presented by Paul Guinery.

John Fordham presents a session specially recorded for Jazz on 3 from new trio 'arthurs.hřiby.ritchie'. Nominated as Rising Star in the 2004 BBC Jazz Awards, and winner of the Peter Whittingham Award 2001, trumpeter Tom Arthurs has been fast making a name for himself on the London jazz and improvised music scene.

One of several projects led by Arthurs, 'arthurs.hřiby.ritchie' deliver intensely rhythmic compositions with unlimited potential for invention and for the unexpected. The bassist is Jasper Hřiby and the drummer is Stu Ritchie.
