An Elizabethan Christmas at Lleweni Hall
Organizing a Christmas party always involves writing lists, normally thrown out with the dead crackers. But when a list of party tunes was scribbled in a book of Welsh poetry in the 1590s, a tantalizing glimpse into Tudor life was preserved.
Catherine Bott talks to Sally Harper about this fascinating blend of ancient Welsh and modern Tudor culture.

Music from the Russian Ballet
In this workshop session, recorded in St David's Hall, Cardiff, Charles is joined by David Nixon, Artistic Director of the Northern Ballet Theatre, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for an exploration of key moments in the evolution of the Russian Ballet, from the time of ballet-master Petipa and composer Tchaikovsky in the 1870s, to the ground-breaking contributions of impressario Diaghilev and composer Stravinsky in the early years of the 20th century, and the new wave of 'realistic' ballets in the Soviet Union.
The music comes from Tchaikovsky's three ballets, Stravinsky's Petrushka, Gliere's The Red Poppy and Shostakovich's The Golden Age.

Nuyorican Swing
Programme One
The first of a new two part series looking at the unique contribution of New York Latinos to jazz music. Far from being a footnote in jazz history, Latin jazz has its own strong musical tradition that continues to the present day.
The first part begins with the father of Latin jazz, Mario Bausa and Dizzy Gillespie's epoch-making collaboration with the Cuban drummer Chano Pozo. Continuing with figures like Tito Puente and Ray Barretto, it looks at how Latin jazz influenced the mainstream of jazz, reawakening appreciation of its African roots.
The programme features archive material from Dizzy Gillespie and exclusive interviews with some of the world's top Latin jazz musicians and experts including the leader of the Lincoln Centre Afro-Latin Jazz orchestra, Arturo O'Farrill, founder of the Fort Apache band Andy Gonzalez and musicologist Rene Lopez.
Also featured is a new and rare interview with revered Latin piano master Eddie Palmieri, celebrating his fiftieth year in music.

Berg's Wozzeck
New York Metropolitan Opera
Margaret Juntwait introduces Berg's great opera telling the story of the lowly soldier Wozzeck. Victimized by nearly everyone he comes across, Wozzeck lives with Marie, his mistress, but she betrays him with the pompous Drum-Major, who humiliates Wozzeck before his company with boasts of his conquest.
Berg's music is some of the most expressive ever composed for the opera stage, and transforms the cruel tale into something tragically poignant.
