War and Peace - Programme 4
Sean Rafferty continues the series of concerts from the 2005 Belfast Festival at Queen's on the theme War and Peace.
4/4. Trio Ondine perform piano trios by Ravel and Shostakovich.
Ravel's Piano Trio was completed at the very beginning of the First World War and Shostakovich's Piano Trio No 2, composed towards the end of the Second World War in 1944, is dedicated to the memory of Shostakovich's close friend, the musicologist Ivan Sollertinsky.
The composer's grief, coupled with his reaction to the bleak events of the time, provided a work of great profundity.
