Karl Amadeus Hartmann (1905-1963)

Reconstruction (1945-53)

In the years following the end of the war, Hartmann was charged with the revitalisation of musical culture in Bavaria. While his Musica Viva concerts attracted a new generation of composers and listeners to contemporary music, Hartmann, dissatisfied with the works he had recently composed, set about revising them. With Donald Macleod.
